What do you call a train that eats toffee? A chew, chew train. Those were the type of jokes we were pulling out the bag at our event last week, when we launched Chiltern Railways first EVER #KidsCoach.

Launching Chiltern Railway’s summer campaign, to help keep kids entertained from the minute they start their family day out, our dedicated family-friendly carriage was dressed head to toe with fun games, very loud instruments (near the quiet coach I might add), arts and crafts, and on-board entertainment including balloon modelling, magic tricks and lots of bubbles!

The carriage appeared for one week only on the Birmingham Moor Street to London Marylebone line as a trial. The idea was born out of creating an antidote to the quiet coach, and helping anxious parents who worry about travelling with potentially “noisy” kids over the summer holidays.

We did the whole shebang, from coming up with the idea, to dressing/undressing the train itself – we had to dress the train on the way up to Birmingham from London, much like an Apprentice-style challenge, we had two hours to dress the moving train, luckily none of us were travel sick! We were also responsible for managing the photography, and writing and selling in the press release.

This is how we operate our experiential arm, Hatch Live. Our integrated approach delivers events with meaning, to ensure we create great experiences to engage with people, but also grab the attention of the papers. Basic sampling events just don’t cut it these days!

Our #KidsCoach was extremely well received, both by passengers to media we phoned. #KidsCoach was blowing up on social and we had amazing coverage across a national media including; BBC News, London Evening Standard, The Sun (print) and Yahoo! We also had regional coverage along the line including radio broadcast from Wycombe Sound FM and BBC Radio Coventry & Warwickshire, who both joined us on the train, and regional newspapers including Birmingham Mail.

Hatch Live deliver all types of events, from product launches such as Remington Air Plates, to managing the PR around Malton Food Festival. We recently created a fancy show reel showcasing some of our Hatch Live work, see for yourself here…

Want us to come up with a Hatch Live idea for your brand? No sweat. Give us a call today – 0113 361 3600.
